Hi Anna. Gratitude is important, though unfortunately not everyone will be thankful or grateful for the work you do. But it doesn’t seem odd to me, it’s very natural to expect so. :)

Recognition is about expecting others to tell us how good we are, to be defined by what others think about us and our work, rather than by our own opinion.
