You Can't Win this Game—Your Shot of Fearless Culture #404
Where change agents find their weekly dose of culture insights and exercises, one topic at a time.
We’re all playing a game nobody can win.
And some of us have turned it into a competitive sport.
When a project tanks, a deadline slips, or a plan unravels, we don’t care about what went wrong. We just ask, who screwed up?
The blame game feels automatic. Natural.
It’s fast. It’s almost satisfying. But it’s also a trap.
The more your team plays it, the more everyone loses.
Here’s the twist: You don’t win by getting better at blaming. You win by refusing to play altogether.
In my latest article, I explain why we blame others—even when it hurts us—and how to build a blameless culture instead.

⚠️ Try This
The 50-50 Rule
Next time something goes wrong, try this:
Before asking what others could have done better, ask yourself: What’s my 50% responsibility here?
What information could I have shared earlier?
What assumptions did I make?
What could I have clarified?
Write down your answers and invite others to share theirs. Equal ownership replaces finger-pointing with problem-solving.
