Are You a Good Rebel?—Your Shot of Fearless Culture #401
Where change agents find their weekly dose of culture insights and exercises, one topic at a time.
Are you a good rebel?
Some people follow rules to the letter. Others bend them until they break.
But good rebels know exactly which rules are worth breaking and, most importantly, why.
They don’t rebel for the sake of it. They want progress.
Good rebels question outdated practices, challenge bureaucracy, and speak up when rigid rules get in the way..
The difference between a troublemaker and a change-maker isn’t what they do. It’s why they do it.
In this week’s article, I share how to turn rule-breakers into assets and how to know if you’re one of the good ones.

Which company rules are causing more harm than good?
⚠️ Try This
Rule-Breaking Test
Use even/over statements to check whether you (or your team) break rules for the right reasons.
Write your own set, or start with these:
Outcome even over rules: when breaking the rule makes more good than harm.
Core values even over outcomes: when breaking the rule doesn’t mean breaking the law (or your values).
Collective gain even over personal gain: when the motive is to help others, not yourself.
Reflect individually and mark where you stand on each even over statements. Pick one “rule” and discuss when it’s worth bending and when it’s not, following the agreed criteria.
